Now that I've thoroughly grossed you all out, on to the topic of today's journal. The Cosplay Otaku Girl, while a big hit at conventions, is actually somewhat disconcerting to encounter in the course of everyday life. You really have to do a double take when you see someone dressed up like a Japanese schoolgirl, it isn't Halloween, and you aren't at a convention. Today's instance, the second such occurrence (same person both times), was even more disconcerting because I couldn't even identify the color scheme (various shades of brown) as being any particular costume. At least the blue and red, you knew what she was going for, even if it was a rather halfhearted attempt (failure to do any of these). Perhaps it's that last one that's really bugging me: shouldn't someone who goes out of their way to dress up like an anime character know better? It's a trope that's actually starting to become mainstream here in America, albeit slowly (I wholly suspect that the style is probably rather impractical; after all, there's a damn good reason that the garter used to have a male equivalent); someone that far into the know shouldn't be so ignorant.
